Shipwrecks throughout History with Greg Ketchen

Please join us for an exciting program about historic shipwrecks that have occurred south and east of Massachusetts. This region has been called the ‘Graveyard of the North Atlantic’, and with over 3,000 wrecks here since European sailors first began exploring the shores of the western Atlantic, there is good reason for the title. Because of the hazards experienced by ships sailing these waters, Massachusetts was the 18th century birthplace of the modern United States Coast Guard. This presentation will include an overview of shipwrecks, their causes, and the evolution of response resources and programs. This program will be presented by retired Coast Guard Captain and Osterville Resident, Greg Ketchen, on Saturday November 29th at 1pm in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library. For more information or to register for this program, please reach out to Amy Wolfe at awolfe@clamsnet.org or by calling the OVL directly at (508)428-5757
