Summer Camp Week Six (rising 4-7th graders) – Lessons from Native Americans – Caring for the Land

Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod at our HyArts Programming Annex Monday through Friday, August 12-16, 12-5pm. This camp will explore the culture of the Wampanoag tribe that lives on Cape Cod. Campers will learn the value of listening to nature and caring for the earth by exploring Native American traditions. On walks we will gather natural materials like stones and feathers to create small-scale medicine wheels, dream catchers, and jewelry. Campers will explore the importance of ceremonies, incorporating dance and movement, and oral tradition that is passed down through generations. We will play Native American games and taste the traditional food of corn, squash and beans. Campers bring their own bag lunch, water, and snacks. The last day of each week, caregivers picking up campers will be invited to a Pizza Party at 5pm where campers will present their projects. The Summer Camps at the Guyer Barn are led by Susan Overstreet, resident arts educator. $325/$300 members. Register at www.cultural-center.org or call 508-394-7100 The HyArts Programming Annex, Guyer Barn is located at 250 South Street, Hyannis.
